Bartol Felbinger

Bartol Felbinger (Cheb, Czech Republic, September 15, 1785 – Zagreb, February 17, 1871).

Bartol Felbinger was a significant architect in Zagreb and continental Croatia during the first half of the 19th century, especially known for his work in the Classical style.

He got his start in Vienna, working as a mason’s assistant for F. Wipplinger and then for F. Zauner, the director of the Academy of Fine Arts. He also worked as a draftsman on the construction of Laxenburg Castle. After six years in Vienna, he became a top-notch architectural draftsman. He moved to Zagreb in 1809, and from then on, he was involved in all sorts of major public and private projects. Among his works, his unrealized designs for Đakovo Cathedral are particularly noteworthy for their grandeur.
