Dobrotvorov dom – Benefactor’s Home
The Dobrotvorov Dom, Benefactor’s Home in english, is the work of architect Rudolf Lubynski. He built it in the late secession style.
The recently renovated building is one of the most beautiful examples of Art Nouveau in Lenuci’s horseshoe.
The famous Croatian singing couple Arsen Dedić and Gabi Novak lived in the building. Arsen even called his anthology the Dobrotvorov Dom – Benefactor’s Home.
However, the building goes back over a hundred years in history. In 1911, the humanitarian society “Dobrotvor” accepted Dr. Velimir Deželić’s proposal to build a “Charitable Home” on Haulik Street according to the project of architect Rudolf Lubynski. The home opened a year later.
The humanitarian society “Dobrotvor” from Zagreb supported the city’s poor children regardless of gender or religion. It was founded by Đuro Deželić in 1877, Velimir’s father.
Rudolf Lubynski‘s most famous work is the Croatian State Archives building on Marulić Square in Zagreb.
